I visited John Lewis' a couple of weeks ago on the recommendation of a friend, and gazed in awe and wonderment at their display of iMacs. This was the first time I had seen this machine in person, and the result of my meeting with it was to come back home and place an order for a 20 inch iMac G5 that evening.
The thing is en-route right now, and I'm hoping this is going to be my last blog post using my PC. Having been a PC user since time began - its going to be a process of discovery for the next couple of weeks. It's going to be strange waving goodbye to all of the quirks of a windows machine, which have become engrained in the everyday things I do with my PC. Not having to run ad-ware programs 5 times a week, not banging the keyboard in frustration when the thing decides it isn't playing anymore. Not having to format hard-drives once a month because no matter how hard you try, there's always someone, somewhere, writing a new trogan to circumvent your security software.
I'm under no illusions, I'm not expecting using a Mac to be some sort of computing paradise, but I'm looking forward to being more productive, and better equipped in the daily use of my computer...]]>stuart@36-degrees.co.ukStuartWed, 23 Feb 2005 00:21:57 +0000Paxman says ... I have just been watching Newsnight on BBC2, Jeremy Paxman, in his own right, an institute of British journalism, the man himself, from university challenge, was talking about a blogger.
In a feature on tonight's show they played a video diary from an Iraqi blogger called Salam Pax (who shot to fame before the war, when his site was one of the most visited blogs anywhere in the blogosphere, before subsequently releasing his blog posts in book format) was exploring the south of Iraq. Whilst its important to appreciate the seriousness of the issues Salam's piece raised, issues like the destruction of Iraqs Jewish monuments, and the persecusion faced on a daily basis by Iraq's religious minorities, it is also worth noting that blogging, and blogger's - it seems - are now able to be taken seriously by the so called professional press.]]>stuart@36-degrees.co.ukStuartWed, 26 Jan 2005 23:14:48 +0000Progress Report [4]1106149972index

I'm really excited about the work I'm doing at the moment, and for the first time in a few years I'm really enjoying web design work and the creative processes involved. It sounds fanciful, but when you create something which is both aesthetically pleasing, and which meets the requirements perfectly of everyone involved, you can't help but feel contentment and pride in what you do.]]>stuart@36-degrees.co.ukStuartWed, 19 Jan 2005 15:52:52 +0000Seasons bleatings [3]1103656421index

It is that most wonderful time of year again, and despite listening to Noddy Holder for almost six weeks, I am still managing to remain upbeat about Christmas. Santa sent one of his little DHL men yesterday with a shiny new Nintendo DS all the way from Kowloon, and tomorrow he will be bringing me a shiny new iPod all the way from PC world.
I'm back home from Uni for the festive period, and as such I have given up worrying about such trivial matters as doing my own washing, preparing my own food and spending my own money. All in all, a good way to spend Christmas. My only complaints thus far are as follows:
It seems I am now officially too old for an advent calendar - therefore the only plausible excuse for eating chocolate at 8 AM is forever gone.

CSS as if it were a mixed breed monkey from the local zoo. We all know the facts, and to be quite honest they're rather dull. Accessibility, longevity, adaptability ra ra ra. But come on, dont you miss the day when you could just pop in a marquee, or have a customized mouse trail without giving so much as a thought for how it looked for anyone else!
The internet is growing up, and as a consequence is getting a sense of fashion, and style...]]>stuart@36-degrees.co.ukStuartSat, 4 Dec 2004 20:21:01 +0000Downloads [2]1107036109index

The first thing in there is a neat little CSS trick which allows you to have a custom image for your autoscroller. Something which could be abused in the inhumane way mousetrails were in the late nineties, but used with care, it could be quite classy.]]>stuart@36-degrees.co.ukStuartSat, 29 Jan 2005 22:01:49 +0000Welcome to 36 degrees design [5]1101945600index

The site is getting a complete overhaul, the old is being knocked down, and this new site will rise like a pheonix from the ashes to take its place. The site will still be powered by cuteNEWS, a simple news management script which I can highly recommend for anyone who wants a lightweight alternative to the likes of moveable type or wordpress.]]>stuart@36-degrees.co.ukStuartThu, 2 Dec 2004 00:00:00 +0000Short-term absence [0]1095284315index

If you really need to speak to me urgently, email me anyway - the likelihood is ill be able to check it regularly, just not as much as normal. If that fails - ring me on: 07980 851 246 and I'll be happy to help.
This is only a short-term measure, and as soon as the Internet connection in my flat has been installed, I'll be back up and running. For those of you interested, im going to Liverpool John Moores for a degree in 'International business studies and Japanese studies', which is a four year course, the third year of which is spent in Japan.
So, until such time as im back, thanks for visiting - and accept my apologies for my absence.]]>stuart@36-degrees.co.ukStuartWed, 15 Sep 2004 22:38:35 +0100
