Sigur Ros in Liverpool
written by Stuart on November 14th, 2005
Last night was the sigur ros gig in Liverpool. I managed to get a ticket, and proceeded to see what was quite possibly the best gig I've ever seen. Running a music website, I used to go to a fair few gigs, and man, did I see some great shows, but last night, there saw just something special about sigur ros live.
The experience begins with the girls from sigur ros' string section playing thier support slot. Amina, also Icelandic played a short set of really, really good songs. Instruments included a saw, a selection of bells and a powerbook, and man, they were awesome. They have an EP available called 'aminamina'. After a short intermission sigur ros came onto the stage and played a decent mixture of stuff from Takk and thier previous albums. The sound in the Philharmonic hall is perfectly suited to an act like SR, the strings sounded haunting, and Jonsi's vocals bounced around the art deco building brilliantly.
This was the first gig I've been to where I was sitting down, and though it took some getting used to, I think it added to intimate nature of the show. 'Vithrar vel til Loftarasa' was a particular highlight, as were 'Saeglopur' and 'Ny Batteri' but the whole thing added up to one awesome show. Next time they are touring, someone remind me to go buy tickets before they are sold out.

Sigur ros are terrific, they make perfect music for travelling, working and dreaming, all in the same time.
And a gig where you actually sit down? Amazing, I’ve never been to one of those.
Yeah, it was pretty special, sigur ros were sensational, and you’re right, their music is perfect for so many different occasions.
