The Nokia E61

written by Stuart on September 9th, 2006

nokia E61I have a new mobile phone, and a new number (email me for it). I decided, after some advice from a knowledgeable friend to go for the Nokia E61, which has turned out to be a good decision.

I had been looking at getting a blackberry or a treo, but none of the current models really looked that great and whilst I've avoided Nokia since around the turn of the century, this is a phone apart from most of nokia's product catalogue. So far I've been running through all the normal new phone tasks, setting up syncing with my iMac - which was quite painless and setting up my mobile email (stuart36deg at googlemail dot com - if you want to drop me a note) which works excellently using the built in mail application and either an open wireless network or my operators access…

Luckily, like most things these days there are a list of blogs dedicated to the Nokia E-series, and I've been scanning them for tips on the best software and configurations for the E61. The best place to start if you're getting an E61 is probably E-series which has the added advantage of being run (presumably) by a mac user. There are priceless tips for isync and itunes to be had there.

also at E-series I found a sweet piece of mac software called SyncTunes which updates my phone with a specific playlist every-time it is connected, turning my phone into a half-decent digital music player. The only downside of the phone is that it doesn't have a camera, but since I have a perfectly good digital camera, that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

All that is left to do now is get a Vaja case and all will be well.

Alright mate! It’s the frenchman, bored and visiting your site with my phone. Just thought i’d compliment you on having a site so painless to navigate and view on a phone.

You knows it bro. Much less painless than the majority out there. I’m glad you can (or not) see the fruits of all my CSS labour, I’ve started browsing a lot on my phone too and it really gets to me that a hell of a lot of sites look so terrible on it.

I’m thinking of getting a new mobile phone myself, my trusty CX65 passed its acme, but I’m waiting till I get my MacBook.

*yay*

Did you get a theme sorted out btw? Granted most of the choice I imagine was car caricatures and half naked buxom females but there’s normally one or two understated bits of design available.
