Bringing in the New Year

written by Stuart on January 3rd, 2007

As 2007 arrived to replace 2006, the done thing is apparently to blog about the years gone and newly underway. Well, firstly 2006 ended excellently. Myself, along with my awesome friends Oli and Steve headed down to Korova in Liverpool where there were seven bands playing downstairs, a line-up of DJs upstairs, and as usual a selection of some of Merseysides coolest and most attractive people to be found in every seat, corner and crevice.

The best of the bands was probably the first one The Hot Melts, who have a front-man with just enough ego, and songs with just enough quality to probably do really quite well for themselves. I was a little pre-occupied in the latter stages of the evening, and as such missed the acts at the other end of the set-list, but I'm assured that 28 costumes and the Delta Fiasco were both very good also. Something else happened in Korova too. I fell down the stairs. In my defense, they were very dark, and very wet. Not a good combination. I fell down half the staircase, cutting my wrist, forearm and doing something which remains painful in my right foot. I did however manage to keep all of my drink in it's glass, which is achievement I'm really rather proud of.

So 2006 ended well, and with 2007 now upon us, I can look forward to a year which is not only the single most important one of my life so far, but stands to be one of the most memorable. All being well, in the latter part of this year I will be studying at a university in Japan, and living somewhere there for something like 10 months over the next two years. Before that I have another five months or so at university, which I'm hoping will be slightly less stressful than the last six were.

Also in 2007 I'm going to be seeing Regina Spektor live, hopefully reuniting with my former bandmate to do some musicating, playing some more football with the boys from Nagoya Grampus Five and maybe even managing to visit my two little sisters in New Zealand.

Workwise, a lot depends on the amount of time I'll have outside of university to take it on, but I'm certainly hoping that - during the time between finishing in Liverpool and going to Japan - I'll be able to find something a bit more regular, whether that is a short-term arrangement with a design agency somewhere, or working on more client stuff, who knows.

So thats pretty much it, I hope you too enjoyed seeing in the New Year. Heres to a good 2007 to you and yours.

At some point Ben, we’ll all have to do it, much as it pains me. Don’t blame me, blame the hot melts for not having a proper website. Maybe I should pitch to them ;)

Oh, and I’m going to Regina twice, in Wolverhampton and Manchester, so ner ner ner.

I’m a Japanese, both born and brought up in Nagoya. I have a question. What is “Nagoya Grampus Five”? (I am a passionate supporter of Nagoya Grampus Eight, the local football club.)

Something to say...

Then add a comment why dont ya!
